When Lionel Fitzgibbon, a mild-mannered insurance claims investigator living in 1920s California, has an airplane carrying bootleg liquor crash into his living room, he is suddenly thrust into the wild and dangerous world of the Inconvenience Club, a secret society of explorers, travelers, mystics, missionaries and rogues. Quite against his own inclination, Lionel gets roped into one adventure after another, each peopled with the feral, colorful supporting characters who call the Inconvenience Club home. From hunting monsters in the Philippines, to searching for treasure in the Orinoco, to rescuing artifacts from divided Palestine, to solving murder mysteries in Singapore, to consulting evil oracles in the Amazon, every adventure needs Lionel… each for a skillset he never realized he had. As the stories progress and he comes into his own, Lionel discovers that behind these devil-may-care adventurers lurks a devil indeed. To save his friends, Lionel will have to grow in courage, daring, loyalty and self-sacrifice, or die in the effort.
